Soul of Distinction is an untamed body of work that explores the forms we, as humans, take when subjected to the forces of anti-beauty, the truth that total comfort equals death, and the importance of living with intention and principles. Through layered, figurative drawings of characters transforming into creatures that embody their state of being, the work conveys lessons of meaning and fulfillment through the bonds we create, selflessness, gratitude, and independence from outcomes. The environment we inhabit, the entertainment we consume, and the nature of our interactions constantly shape our minds, bodies, and spirits. Much of the world around us serves the forces of anti-beauty, leaving the soul downtrodden. Our actions, both positive and negative, are not merely our own but are taught to us through what we see, experience, and consume. Entertainment, in particular, dictates what is "normal" and "acceptable," contaminating our imaginations, emotional bandwidth, and outlook on life. It shapes our understanding of what it means to be alive and what a "good" life is, even when we aren't fully conscious of it. The line between entertainment and art has blurred, and beauty has become elusive to the common man. Through the repetition of daily life, we risk becoming shadows of ourselves, aka GOLEMS, if we fail to live intentionally. Humans need a cause, a substance to live for, which is easily lost through self-betrayal when disconnected from what truly matters. This body of work offers a path to joy and serves as an antidote to despair. It encourages the idea that we can lift each other by sharing in our collective suffering, for no sorrow is beyond transformation. We can improve our characters and circumstances, but only through intentionality and the combustion of the spirit. I hope that viewers will take responsibility for their own destinies, focusing on what truly matters in life and learning to appreciate life as it is, rather than as they think it should be.
Crossing the Chiral Spectre: Dwelling Under Polaris is an unbridled body of mixed-media drawings linking structures with memory, growth, transformation, and the prospect of more through spiritual, mechanical, and organic figures. What began as a dream of purchasing my own house soon shifted into an exploration of the physical and mental places I’ve inhabited, along with the imagined futures I long toward. This adventurous omnibus of installments and sequels presents memory and self-growth as portraits that continue to churn restlessly into the vast unknown of eternity. Spectre reflects how we confront time and memory, how the past can propel us into the future or keep us inactive, how environments, entertainment, and personal relationships shape the mind, body, and spirit, and how to discern which nurture and which restrain. It challenges viewers to overcome double-mindedness in character, daily choices, and desires, confronting what holds them back to progress toward the futures they know are achievable. The next dream is just beginning. And there’s more to come….
