ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a visual artist from Des Moines, Iowa, creating multi-media drawings on paper and through video using India ink, chalk pastel, and photography. My work is raw and lively, with loose, gestural marks contrasted by defined forms and figures. Each piece breaks free from the standard square frame, featuring cut and shaped edges that, when installed together, combine into a larger organism.
Each piece is designed to be personal, like a conversation between close friends or reading the contents of a journal. My work features vivid imagery, humor, narrative structure, and vivid color to reflect intentional, precise human decision-making. I emphasize individualism, affirming that every aspect of a person’s life, including death, holds significant value and purpose. My drawings intend to encourage intentional transformation, urging viewers to transcend the temporary and pursue everlasting goals beyond themselves. My aim is not perfection, but wholeness and accuracy through absurdity.
