Ethan Edvenson is an emerging fine artist from Des Moines, Iowa who emphasizes in mixed media drawings. From at least the age of three, he has been drawing on different types of surfaces constantly. This continued up through middle school and high school. However, despite how much he enjoyed making art, Ethan hadn’t considered beginning a career in the art field until a publications teacher in high school asked him to draw cartoons for the school newspaper.
Ethan aims to convey his own personal thoughts and humor, unrestrained choices, and high level of ambition in an invigorating way. This mindset is a response to the uninspired, superficial, and derivative media that people mainly consume. Ethan feels that without a personality in artwork, there is little sign of intention and the human spirit’s desire to broaden its understanding is dampened.
Recently, Ethan graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2020 with a Bachelors of Fine Art in Drawing and a minor in Art History. Since then, his work has been accepted into a number of art exhibitions across the nation and festivals throughout Iowa. Currently, Ethan is working with the themes of eternity, time progression, and consequences in his mixed media drawings as well as making experimental videos.
